The Issues

My Pledge to You

I, Isaiah Kauka Sabey, pledge to be your citizen Representative here in Makiki, Tantalus, Papakolea and Portions of McCully & Pawa'a—House District 24.  By electing me to office, I promise to work to restore the proper role of government, which is to protect life, liberty and property.

Freedom & Liberty

I believe in freedom and liberty that is God given, affirmed by our Founding Fathers, articulated in the Declaration of Independence, and protected by the Constitution.

Principled Leadership

I believe that true leadership is unwavering in the face of criticism, is steadfast when confronted with adversity, and is committed to serving your (public’s) interests over the government’s.

Limiting Government

I believe that government exists to protect our God-given rights, defend our sovereignty and borders, and provide infrastructure for the common good.  The government that governs least, based on the Constitution, governs best.  I believe in policies that unlock individual potential and unleash economic growth and vitality.  Entitlement programs only create a society of people who are dependent and indebted to government rather than a society that is self-sufficient and self-reliant.  Your views, your concerns, and your decisions are important and should not be controlled and or manipulated by government.

Individual Responsibility

I believe each person is responsible and accountable for the consequences of their own actions and, if one fails to live responsibly, it is that person’s duty to make restitution to restore honor and integrity to oneself and their society.  It is also in society’s best interest to embrace the opportunity to help those in need.  Our individual responsibility affects not only ourselves but affects all of society.

Fiscal Accountability, Responsibility & Efficiency

I believe that government should be good stewards of the people’s hard earned tax dollars and that balancing the budget annually and not running a deficit is a moral obligation.  It is your right, and the right of every citizen, to know where your tax dollars are being spent and what you are getting for your money.  We don’t need a budget that fits our government; we need a government that fits our budget.  Government’s role is to assure the people that it is responsible to balance the budget by eliminating waste and reduce spending before raising any taxes.

Small Business

I believe that small businesses are at the heart of economic growth and vitality.  Local businesses bring vitality and vision to our own communities.  It is imperative that our politicians do everything possible to ensure that small businesses are not shut down and destroyed by taxes and policies that prohibit them to prosper.  When they prosper, the community is blessed.

Free-Market/Competition

I believe when markets are not burdened by government regulation and oppressive oversight, the free-market, through innovative solutions, creates greater opportunities for all.  That is our country’s history and its great strength.

Quality Education

I believe that our State and nation’s educational system MUST prepare our children for tomorrow’s workplace regardless of age, wealth or geographical location.  Educating our children is at the core to sustaining our future, safeguarding order and liberty, and is the gateway to every opportunity life has to offer.  Hawaii’s parents MUST have a choice in their child’s education and their voice is crucial to how they are educated.  I believe that a parent’s voice and participation in their child’s education is the key to success of any educational system because their family values are expressed freely and held together in honor and integrity.

Inalienable Right to Life

I believe that human life is sacred from conception (moment of fertilization) to natural death.  Our Declaration of Independence ensures a right to life.  Today, I grieve over the inhumane disregard of life of our children and elderly.  Each year, over 1.2 Million babies are killed.  Since 1973, over 50 Million babies have been terminated through abortion.  Their voices have been snuffed out and society has hurt their own lives physically, mentally, and emotionally over this abuse.
I believe it is our responsibility and duty to defend life, speak up for their well-being and enforce laws and policies to protect the unborn, the elderly and those who endanger themselves by it.  Our Hawai’i State motto, “Ua Mau Ke Ea ‘O Ka ‘Aina I Ka Pono” translates into “The life of the land is perpetuated in Righteousness.” It is time to restore honor to our society and preserve life.  It should not be left in the hands of politicians who have no heart for it.

Strong Family Values

I believe that the family unit is the foundation of a healthy society.  Although riddled by divorce and infidelity, all society benefits from healthy families that promote honor, integrity, moral values and genuine self-sacrificing love toward one another.  I believe healthy marriages, consisting of one man and one woman, are at the core of a healthy family life.
The family is responsible for its own welfare, education, moral training, conduct, and property.  Solutions for society exist when the family unit and their values are upheld with honor and integrity.  It is not the government’s role to intrude upon and compel how families in our communities are to be structured and or oriented.  I respect the family values of all.  It is what makes America a wonderful country.

Protecting Victim’s Rights

I believe that protecting the victim of a crime is the government’s utmost responsibility rather than its focus on the rights of the offender.  Rewarding the offender by trying to understand their motives is not justice.  Neither placing them in prison to serve time as their reward but having them make restitution for the wrong they have done.

Environment

I have great respect and pride for our ‘Aina.  Hawai’i is our beautiful home and we are blessed.  I believe we have a responsibility to steward our land properly.  We must care for the land, ocean and all natural resources through moral and ethical stewardship.  Here, in Makiki, there are many families that live, work and thrive together.  When we value the beauty of God’s creation, we learn to appreciate the diverse communities we share and we take pride in caring of our neighborhood around us.
